Christian Education

Even apart — we are together

Christian education during COVID-19 Restrictions

Dear friends in Christ,
“Just as I have loved you, you should also love one another.” (John 13:34) In these uncertain times of COVID-19, loving one another currently means physical distancing. Physical distancing does not stop the work of the church, though!
Our 2020-2021 program year for children & youth begins on September 13, 2020 with Sunday school via Zoom at 11:15am. The Christian Education team is full of excitement and joy to begin another year!
Beginning October 4, 2020, Immanuel Highlands will resume in-person worship and programming. Transitioning to in-person worship will involve patience, teamwork, and an abundance of God’s grace. At this time, all Sunday school will continue to be livestreamed, but we also have an in-person option for our 4th-8th grade class.
Programming for children & youth in 2020-2021 will involve learning about our place in the church through the exploration of the Rites, practices, and texts used in the Episcopal Church. We also will consider and evaluate the need for social justice through a Christian lens.

We believe in the unyielding and faithful love of God. God’s love knows no bounds, and His love manifests in the presence of children.

At Immanuel Church, Highlands, we believe all God’s children deserve a fun, Christian-centered education program. We have programs for infants and toddlers (6 mos-PreK), children (k-5th grade), and youth (6th-12th grade) as well as a growing program for adults!

Nursery

Our nursery is available every Sunday morning beginning at 10:15am for infants and toddlers. Our nursery attendant and volunteers are SafeChurch certified. Our nursery is located on the first floor, down the hall and through the double doors. (Follow the signs!)

Children’s Ministry

Sunday School

Sunday school is offered every Sunday morning at 10:30am beginning on September 13, 2020. All children in K-8th grade are welcome. Our curriculum is Holy Moly!, a division of SparkHouse.
Sunday school is child-centered with a Christian focus. Our instructor, Ms. Anne Alexis, and our volunteers, seek to impart the Christian values of love, peace, patience, friendship, and generosity through Word of God. Each week we pray, learn a lesson, sing songs, complete a craft, and have snack!

Waffle Church

Who’s hungry?! On the second Saturday morning of every month, the parishes of Immanuel Highlands, Trinity/Old Swedes, and SsAM get together for Waffle Church! We hear a Bible story, eat some waffles, do a craft, and participate in Holy Eucharist – all in an hour! It’s a fun and spirit-filled way to start the weekend!

Youth Ministry

Each month, the youth of Immanuel Highlands, SsAM, and Trinity/Old Swedes get together to hang out, get to know each other, and deepen our faith. All youth in 6th-12th grade are welcome! Some of our events include a hayride, an escape room, an MLK Day service event, a Christian wellness event, and more!

Family & Intergenerational Ministry

Every liturgical season brings its own set of exciting opportunities for families to worship and learn together! Our family ministry events include our Fall Ice Cream Social, Advent Wreath-Making, Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper, and more!

Adult Education

Our current text: The Social Justice Bible Challenge

Adult Education at Immanuel Church Highlands is thriving.  We began our study of The Good Book Club in January 2019.  The Good Book Club is a part of Forward Movement, a ministry of the The Episcopal Church for eighty years.  Since then we have studied Paul’s Letter to the Romans, the Gospels of Matthew, Luke, and John and created a “homegrown” version to study Philippians.
